Custom .NET development for the Flemish government: Department of Agriculture and Fisheries meets Karolien!

Karolien Peeters, .NET developer at the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries

In its search for driven .NET developers, the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (Dept. LV) called on the training and recruitment expertise of dotNET academy. After several intake conversations, Dept. LV expanded one of its teams with front-end developer Karolien Peeters. A successful collaboration with instant effect: from day one, Karolien contributed 100% as an external consultant within the IT team. Fully productive.

IT support at government level

As a department of the Flemish government, Dept. LV translates European agricultural regulation into concrete legislation in Flanders. Policy preparation, execution, control and evaluation form a varied set of responsibilities that require specific, high-level software and equally strong developers. Although Dept. LV has a fixed internal IT service, it regularly works with external consultants for specific IT questions.

Career switch to IT

Although Karolien now enjoys tackling challenging development cases, she did not follow the standard path. Quite the opposite. In 2019, she made a 360-degree career switch and moved into IT. It was a bold choice that proved to be the right one, because today she has fully found her place at Dept. LV.

At Dept. LV, I made my debut as a developer. After working for 15 years as a consultant in a chemical plant, I decided to follow an evening course in IT. That made me want more. The offer of Angular, CSS and HTML was very limited in evening school. To broaden my knowledge and get a feel for practice, I started the training track at dotNET academy in August 2019.

dotNET academy, a professional match

During this recruitment process, Dept. LV joined forces with dotNET academy. The result? A fixed seat at the development table for Karolien, emerging IT talent with broad .NET knowledge. Erik Wollebrants, IT project leader, considers the collaboration highly successful.

Especially in the execution and control phase, we at Dept. LV need a lot of specialized, custom-made software. We write most of this software in-house. When we were looking for extra IT support through an external developer, dotNET academy put us in touch with Karolien, a rough diamond who had only recently switched to IT. From the first day, we were impressed by her up-to-date IT insight. A match with our team.
