External cloud expert versus ...
Jef Meijvis walked into dotNET lab exactly one year ago. With a degree in industrial engineering and his first international work experience behind him, he was ready for the consultancy story on Belgian soil. The opportunities for the promising IT professional were there, although it was our personal approach that convinced him.
I have many friends who are consultants. Their common denominator? They all miss a connection with their employer and are only in close contact with their project colleagues. When, during the introduction with managing director Ive Verstappen and later with the whole dotNET lab team, I felt that the involvement was so strong, I did not hesitate. I could see myself fully fitting into the ambitious business story with a human touch.
Jef is currently giving his best at Atlas Copco. He is working on the move from their existing business application to Microsoft Azure. He does that not only as a consultant with both feet in the project, but also as their temporary adviser. Jef recently grew into a Microsoft Certified Trainer after a hands-on training track. With Microsoft's approval, he can now provide training at dotNET lab and for our customers.
Soon after I started at dotNET lab, Ive suggested that I develop into an Azure specialist. Microsoft does not give away its certifications for free. Quite the opposite. A series of online courses and a successful exam are a must. Today, I proudly carry the title of Microsoft Certified Trainer and help employees at Atlas Copco get started. For me, a project is successful when it keeps running smoothly after I leave. So I make every effort to properly brief Atlas Copco on the importance of things like backups and security.

Microsoft services never stand still. That is something we love as IT experts, but it also takes time and space to master. With our domain specializations, we address that challenge head-on.
It is impossible for colleagues to always stay up to date on everything. That is why dotNET lab created the concept of domain experts. It is a smart and efficient strategy to keep internal IT knowledge fully up to date and make time use extremely efficient. I am the Azure domain expert, colleague Tim is the point of contact for Microsoft front-end design and colleague Vincent closely follows development trends. Part of our role is to keep a finger on the pulse of our domain. Recently, I used my two skills, Microsoft Certified Trainer and Azure, during a three-day internal training. It is great to share my know-how with the team. I look forward to what the future brings. The sky is the limit.
