How dotNET lab kickstarted Bert's career as a QA Engineer
Hello there! I am Bert Van Itterbeeck. Before 2020, you could find me behind the counter as a butcher or managing a department in a supermarket. Life often offers new opportunities, and I chose to make a significant career switch into tech. That switch was made possible by the fundamental training at dotNET lab, a place to which I owe much of my current success as a Quality Assurance Engineer.
Journey to dotNET lab
After deciding to leave my previous career behind, I went back to school to obtain a degree in Electronics ICT, with a minor in Virtual Reality. It was a challenging but exciting journey, with the opportunity to join dotNET lab as a highlight. At dotNET lab, I was not just another trainee. I was a young professional being shaped by dotNET academy for the IT industry.
Training experience at dotNET lab
The training environment at dotNET academy was particularly inspiring. They strongly emphasize hands-on learning experiences, with examples straight from the field. I specialized in automated testing, mastering tools such as SpecFlow and Selenium, skills that are in high demand today. The trainers are experienced professionals who, from their day-to-day expertise, understood exactly which tools and knowledge were essential to get started as a full QA Engineer.
Role at Protime
Armed with new skills and a lot of ambition, I joined Protime, a major player in time registration software and part of SD Worx. Here I apply everything I learned at dotNET lab. My role includes meticulous quality assurance testing, ensuring our software products are flawless and efficient. I mainly work from home and visit the office in Mechelen, Belgium, once a week to sync with my team.
Work culture and personal growth
At Protime, it is not just about work. It is about growing in a stimulating and flexible environment. We have small, agile teams, each with a dedicated QA Engineer, creating a personalized and effective team dynamic. The flexibility in our working hours is a major plus, allowing us to balance our personal lives without missing anything at work. As part of an international company, I enjoy the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues from different backgrounds, including my current Romanian teammates.
